The new Capelight release improves on the standard poor encoding of 18 mbps FEL Kino Lorber UHDs.

While the mono mix on each disc appears to be from the same transfer, several releases have different EQs. The Twilight Time and Carlotta discs sound similar while the Capelight UHD track appears to be a dithered version of the track included on their previous 2018 BD release. I personally preferred the MGM DVD's EQ as select sound effects have a more punchy low end than other tracks (although the Capelight UHD sounds similar). Importantly, all mono mixes besides the MGM DVD have an awful, filtered sound for a short scene at ~01:42:30, almost as if that segment was patched in from a lower-quality element. The MGM DVD mono had to be transcoded to FLAC to splice the modern MGM logo in at the head of the film and to seamlessly patch the 5 edits that were required to sync with the Capelight UHD.

The Capelight UHD subtitles are too bright, so they were adjusted to a more standard brightness (58% white, #949494). All other PGS subtitles were tonemapped to match this value. English (US / SDH) subtitles from the Twilight Time disc were OCR'd, spellchecked, and synced. Named chapters from the MGM DVD were synced to the nearest matching I- or P-frames.

Screenshots have been tonemapped for reference
